Nokia X20 Review: Should You Buy or Bye!

Nokia X20 Review: should you buy this phone in 2021? Is 5G enough to make you forget other crazy specs that should have come with the phone? What could HMD have done to make this device competitive? Finally, should you buy or Bye? You’ll find answers to the above questions via this review. Let’s get started!

  Display

  • 6.67″ IPS LCD display

  • 1080×2400 resolution

Nokia X20 has a large display with a FHD+ screen resolution. However, it lacks the juice that could have made it stand out. It has an average brightness of 450 nits. In a time when you can spend less to get Redmi Note 10 Pro with 1200 nits peak brightness.

Also, it lacks any fancy stuff like a high refresh rate (90Hz /120 Hz not available). In 2021, we expect any smartphone of this price range to feature at least a 90 Hz refresh rate. Simply put, the display is unimpressive.

  Software

  • Android 11

  • 3 years Software update

During the Nokia X20 review, I came to realised that, it seems Nokia X20 only selling point is the software update. As HMD has pledged full support for three years major OS update– this means three years of Android and security updates.

Now, that’s a very good one by HMD. Software update is important as every other feature of a smartphone. But just that alone is not enough. Why? Because other brands out there offer years of Software update too.

  Chipset | Performance | 5G

  • Snapdragon 480

  • Adreno 619

  • 5G

  • 6/8 GB RAM

  • 128 GB storage

Nokia X20 is 5G enabled. At this time when the next-gen network is fast growing globally, a 5G device is cool to have depending on your location anyway. The Adreno 619 GPU is cool. But not fantastic.

The Snapdragon 480 chip was actually made for entry level devices. And such devices are supposed to be affordable. Sadly, that is not the case with the Nokia X20.

There is a spacious memory, 6/128GB and 8/128GB. Nokia X20 can equip microSD cards up to 512GB (but note that it’s a hybrid dual-SIM slot).

  Camera

  • 64 MP main camera

  • 5 MP ultrawide camera

  • 2 MP macro

  • 2 MP depth

  • 32 MP selfie camera

Camera is another selling point of the Nokia X20. The 64MP primary lens takes brilliant and warm picture. Simply the main highlight of this camera setup. However, the 5MP ultrawide is soft and dull (nothing spectacular in terms of quality) But has cool feature. For example, the Dual Sight feature enables you to snap photos and record videos using two cameras simultaneously.

While the 32MP selfie camera is another high mark of the Nokia X20 device.

Nokia X20 use 4,470 mAh battery, which can easily sustain you for two days. For charging it supports 18W fast charge.

  Nokia X20 Price starts at $412 (~₦135,000)

Nokia X20 price is $412 (~₦135,000) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. It will be available in May for general purchase. For now only review units are sent for reviews by HMD.

  Nokia X20 Review: Verdict/Conclusion

The price of the smartphone is over expensive for the specs you are getting. While 5G is cool, while 3 years of Android software update is awesome. But overall, you can get something better at that price range from Xiaomi and Samsung.

Will you even buy a smartphone in 2021 without 90 Hz refresh rate or 120 Hz refresh rate? Nokia is a 2021 weirdo.

They have already taken the initiative to launch 6 six different smartphones in 3 categories, such as the X, G, and C series. We have already done the complete review of the Nokia X10 smartphone, definitely take a look.

Among them, the Nokia X20 hopes to create a milestone in the industry. The phone is expected to be released in May 2021. Whether it’s a mid-range 5G phone, you can take advantage of mind-blowing features. Without the father, a doe we will begin the detailed review of the Nokia X20 smartphone.

  Nokia X20 Review

Nokia X20 5G features a large 6.67 inches IPS LCD display on this AMOLED gen. A 1080 x 2400 resolution with 395 nits brightness can provide an immersive visual experience.

The phone running on Android 11, which currently acquires a strong position in the market.

It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G chipset with a 2.0 GHz processing speed. With this, the cell phone has the power to optimize the entire system in the best possible way.

The circle space on the back acquires the AI quad-camera. The 64 MP main camera, including 5 MP ultra-wide, 2 MP macro, and 2 MP deep, allows your wings to fly. Interestingly, it has a 32 MP selfie camera.

The X20 comes with a 4470 mAh battery and an 18 W fast charger.

  Design and Display

The new Nokia X20 smartphone comes with a tall 6.67 inches screen with a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels offers an immersive visual experience. On the other hand, it is built on the much older IPS LCD technology on this budget and the 220g phone looks a lot heavier. Nokia follows these steps to reduce the price of the phone as much as possible so that users have access to the latest 5g technology.

The X20 does not have an exciting design, but its standard color is certainly a sophisticated choice. Both colors, midnight sun, and Nordic blue will be available on the market. With a brightness of 450 nits, you can use the phone in sunlight without any problem. The thin-framed smartphone has an easy-to-use interface. You get a very small drill hole camera on the front screen. The gorilla glass 5 is the plus point of the X20 phone that can protect it from damage.

  Memory and Internal

The inner section proves to be a strong point of consideration before purchasing. The Octa-core processor with an 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G chipset is suitable for all types of multitasking and games. Nokia X20 phone will be fast enough to do any kind of heavier task.

The X20 phone is run on Android 11 OS and the graphics section comes with Adreno 619 graphics card. Here you will not get any custom UI, so the chance of a bloatware application is less. You can choose the phone in 2 different variants, the basic one comes with 6GB with 128 GB storage and the higher variant comes with 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage. If you are a person who downloads a lot of music and videos, a MicroSD card is for you. But you need to use a shared SIM slot because the dedicated slot is not available.

  Camera

When you turn on the camera, ZEISS optics capture some decent images that can take you out of the house every day just to take pictures. There is no doubt about the quality of the photos captured by the 64 MP camera on the rear side of the phone. You will notice a 5 MP ultra-wide including 2 MP macro and 2 MP depth sensors. For daylight photography, you will not have any problems, but in low light, you may see some problems. You can record videos of up to 1080p at 30fps but the gyro-EIS is missing, so you will see the problem in the video stability.

One of the most momentary things with the Nokia X20 phone is its selfie camera. Can you imagine what your close-up photos will look like with the 32 MP camera? The X20 has a 32 MP wide front camera that can record videos up to 1080p. The company strategically added the feature to capture a different segment of the audience. This feature can also be a competitive point. Making 1080p videos with multiple perspectives for your next content is easier than before, but to some extent, you will be disappointed because the HDR option is not available for selfie cameras.

  Battery and Others

The Nokia X20 5G smartphone comes with a 4470 mAh battery with an 18 W fast charger. So fasten your seat belt and follow your YouTube playlist. The phone is built to last more than 7 hours of battery life and offers almost 2 days of battery life in battery-saving mode.

To live a life free of frustration, the 18W fast charge option allows your phone to charge at a fast pace. The phone costs $ 400 (Rs 29,999). The price is much higher with the available specifications, but you will have the Nokia brand on the back.

  Nokia X20 Pros and Cons

Down below you can see the list of pros and cons (advantages and disadvantages) of the Nokia X20 smartphone.

  Pros

  5G support.

  Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

  Latest Android 11 OS.

  Decent photo and video quality.

  side-mounted fingerprint.

  Decent battery life.

  18W fast charging support.

  Cons

  Without custom UI.

  No gyro-EIS support.

Outdated USB type C 2.0 port.

  Without wireless charging support.

  Uses shared SIM slot.

  60Hz refresh rate.

  Conclusion

Certainly, Nokia is a very old brand. We haven’t seen such attractive phones with the Nokia brand in a few years. This is definitely a significant step for Nokia to get back on track. The brand that was once famous for its excellent phone has earned a bad reputation. But the Nokia X20 phone has some attractive features that can definitely attract you. Now, it’s time to see whether they can create a milestone again or not. If you can compromise the battery, buying this phone will be a wise decision with that mid-range budget.

It is always better to find alternatives to evaluate the market as well. In our recommendation, the OnePlus Nord 5G can be a strong competitor with this budget, with great storage capacity and wonderful design.
