June 16, 2021, at the launch conference at Shanghai Oriental Sports Center Huawei launches the new Honor 50 Series. The conference was hosted by Zhao Ming, CEO of Glory Terminal Co., Ltd. Zhao Ming also announced the next product line of the Honor family, including the digital series and Yuexiang Technology; the X series is Pratt & Whitney Technology, and the more powerful Magic series, the ultimate technology, and the Honor 50 series released today belong to the digital series. Positioning in the mid-end, wanting a more powerful Magic series, etc., will debut at the end of the year, using the full blood version of Snapdragon 888, which is also called Snapdragon 888 Pro.

  Features of Honor 50 Series:

Entering the whole, next is today’s protagonist Honor 50 series. The series has three models: Honor 50 Standard Edition, Honor 50 Pro and Honor 50 SE. Of course, the focus is still around 50 Pro, let’s get started.

Let’s take a look at the true content first~ The first snow crystal is quite beautiful~ The summer amber next to it is also very dazzling, and there are two colour combinations.

  Display:

Both Honor 50 and Honor 50 Pro are equipped with hyperboloid OELD screens, which are 6.57 inches and 6.72 inches in size, and both have a large curvature of 75°. You can hardly see the borders on both sides when viewed from above. As for the hand feeling and mistouch, don’t worry too much.

The whole system has 1.07 billion colour displays, resolving the retina screen. The pixel density has not been disclosed, and the pixel density has reached 439ppi, which also meets the 100% DCI-P3 wide colour gamut. In addition, there are all series of 120Hz high refresh rate, 1920Hz PWM dimming and 300Hz touch sampling rate. In addition, the colour depth is still 10bit, and the contrast is unknown.

The Honor 50 Pro has an ultra-narrow bezel design, only 1.31mm, but this is not the narrowest. The upper bezel of the Honor 50 SE is even more abnormal. We will talk about this later.

Located in the middle part of the upper frame, there is an ultra-narrow earpiece gap hidden. The structure and algorithm are used to ensure the clarity of the earpiece. On the back, the edge is 2.5D curved with symmetrical to screen and gives an excellent feel.

  Design:

The rear lens module design of the Honor 50 series this time is quite eye-catching. The camera module adopts a dual-lens design, a central axis symmetrical scheme, and a “ring” design that blends in shape and meaning. The main camera lens is also polished with metal on the edge. The degree of recognition is also very visual impact.

The back cover is made of diamond-coloured craftsmanship. The first snow crystals are as bright as stars, as if pearls are floating on the water, and they are dazzling from any angle.

  Camera:

Honor 50 series comes with a quad-camera setup at back. The Honor 50 Pro comes with a 100MP main camera and Honor 50 with a 50MP main sensor. The configuration of the other camera is not disclosed by the company. We expect these to be 8MP + double 2MP sensors. In front of video calls and selfies, we get the 32MP and 12MP wide-angle sensor.

  Introducing Snapdragon 778G:

The Honor 50 series is a world premiere equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G mobile platform. This SOC is positioned lower than Snapdragon 780G but higher than 768G. It uses a 6nm process, which is also Qualcomm’s first 6nm process SOC, which is found by TSMC.

The Snapdragon 778G is based on the A78 architecture Kryo 670, the highest frequency is 2.4GHz, and the claimed performance is increased by up to 40%. The GPU part is Adreno 624L, the same rendering performance improvement is up to 40%, and supports the features of the Elite Gaming platform, including variable resolution rendering (VRS), Game Quick Touch.

  Battery:

The Honor 50 Series comes with the ultimate batteries for smartphones. The standard version equips the 4300mAh battery. This support the 66W fast charging going to 70% in just 20 minutes. But the Pro version is downgraded to a 4000mAh battery. But the smartphone supports 100W fast charger. This will allow you to charge it to 90% in just 20 minutes.

  Honor 50 SE:

The upper frame is quite narrow, only 1.1mm, it seems that the digging hole is a bit big the digging hole is not too big. The screen-to-body ratio of the Honor 50 SE is as high as 94.3%. This may be the phone with the highest screen-to-body ratio.

  Design

Similarly, the rear lens module is also designed with dual-lens central axis symmetry, but there is only one lens in the two ring rings, and the other one is not in the circle, but the main camera is the same 100 million pixels as the 50 Pro, and the lens configuration as follows.

Honor 50 SE comes in three colours, the main streamer mirror, black is also good, the classic charm sea blue is a bit vulgar, but unfortunately, there is no first snow crystal colour.

Like the Honor 50 Pro, it is also a 4000mA battery, but it does not support 100W fast charging, but 66W, which can charge up to 75% in 20 minutes, which is slightly faster than the Honor 50 because the battery capacity is 300mAh less.

The biggest difference is that MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 is used inside. The performance of this processor is not bad. It was slightly lower than the 778G in the industry before, but it is cheaper.

Supplement: A 6.78-inch centre-mounted perforated straight screen, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, colour details are not disclosed.

How much will the Honor 50 cost?

The only pricing we have for the Honor 50 series so far is for the phones’ Chinese models. Their starting prices are:

  Honor 50 – ¥2,699 (around £300/$420)

  Honor 50 Pro – ¥3,699 (around £410/$580)

  Honor 50 SE – ¥2,399 (around £265/$375)

It’s worth remembering that Western prices are typically higher than the direct conversions from Chinese currency, so expect the Honor 50 to cost more than this when it does launch in Europe.
