$750,000 just bought the world's biggest games collection

How much does it cost to buy your way into the Guinness book of world records? $750,000, if you want to own the world's largest video games collection, based on a record breaking auction that has just ended over on GameGavel . The collection, which is officially the world's largest according to record keepers Guinness, will now change hands from the man who built it.

Michael Thomasson spent over thirty years amassing the huge collection, which comprised over 11,000 games (including over 2,000 brand new and sealed titles) at the time of the sale. Winning bidder "peeps_10091970" spent an incredible $750,250 to secure the collection, which includes the original Guinness certificate awarded to Thomasson in November 2012 and a lifetime subscription to Retro magazine - which featured the collection on the cover of its first edition. Games from over 100 consoles are included in the lot, which is broken down in detail at Good Deal Games .

Pictures alone simply don't do the huge collection justice, but the video embedded below gives you a much better idea just how much space, time and money is required to amass a collection of this size.

According to Thomasson, building the collection took a lot of work. "I operated seven independent gaming stores during the nineties and have worked for another chain for the last decade. I also operated Good Deal Games online since 1998, having thousands of games cross my path. Whenever I purchased a game that did not directly come from the distributor I was able to look through all our inventory and pick out the nicest copy of a game, including grabbing the nicest box and manual."

The man himself sold the collection to focus on his family, but says beginning again from scratch isn't out of the question in the future.
